About STLBiking Registration

I put this site together because a few people complained to me that on-line registration was too expensive.

I had the impression that in some cases the cost of on-line registration services was so high it would push the event promoter into the red. I didn't want to see events canceled because they couldn't break even, so here we are.

It's pretty simple. People who register through the site pay the promoter directly through PayPal. PayPal gets a small cut, about 3%, and that's it. There's no getting around PayPal's cut of the action. In fact, there's no getting around that 3% anywhere. That's about as cheap as it gets. Sure there are others, but why bother trying to save a penny on a transaction if you're not sure they'll be around next week? Why bother building it if it takes a lot of work and only saves a penny?

So PayPal it is. They can have their two-point-whatever percent plus $0.30. The rest of it though, that's yours. Yes, the rest of the money goes straight into the promoter's pocket. All of it.

The promoter may not get all the bells and whistles the big registration sites offer, but he does get all the information on the registration form. USACycling event promoters also get a PDF with all their pre-registered riders release forms filled in.

It's all there under the Event Management tab where it can be downloaded at any time.

  • I put up the registration form
  • People come and fill in the form, then pay the promoter through PayPal
  • The promoter downloads all the registration data and pre-filled release forms
